This article talks about the current hostage situation going on off the eastern coast of Africa. Last Wednesday, Captain Phillips of the Maersk Alabama was abducted by pirates in the Indian Ocean. Sailors tried to reach the lifeboat where he is currently being held but were fired on and forced to turn around. The U.S. Navy is bringing more ships to the area due to the dramatically increasing attacks.
I was surprised when I read this article because I had no idea that there were such things as real modern pirates. I hear piracy now as music, movie, software piracy. I have never seen anything about pirates in the news before now.
