Pompeo floats sanctions relief for North Korea if it dismantles nuclear program

In an article by Gregory Hellman from Politico.com, Hellman discussed the fact that Mike Pompeo has stated that he will remove sanctions from North Korea if they do in fact go through with denuclearization. The Trump administration seems to believe that removing sanctions on North Korea will unlock new economic potentials for South Korea as well as North Korea. This article includes quotes from Pompeo explaining that the US will be required to provide ‘security assurances’ for North Korea if they do go through with denuclearization. The dismantlement of North Korean nuclear facilities is scheduled to happen sometime between May 23 and May 25. This article made sure to note on the fact that South Korea is very supportive of the United State’s intentions with this deal, and that President Trump is excited to accept this ‘gracious gesture’ from Kim Jong-Un.
