Iran moves to reduce number of executions

Matt Boguslawski

Iran, being one of the few remaining countries that still carries out the death penalty is begining to limit the number of executions carried out. This year alone 140 people have been killed. The plan in order to reduce these numbers is to reform the current laws. The laws in particular that are to be changed are in regard to "unncessary exceutions." In order for these reform laws to pass they must first pass Parliament and the Guardian Council. These are simply reforms, not an all out end to execution in Iran. All execution laws and executions themselves are said to be carried out within the framework of their laws, and especially within Islamic tradition.
