Iraq's quite healthcare crisis

Amanda Dominguez

Almost everyday we hear of violence escalating in the middle east. But it may have not occur to anyone of the health care crisis that has been cased due to the violence in such war torn countries. This article focused on a child named Hussein who was badly injured after a car explosion in the market. He had massive tissue damage on his head and when his mother learned about a free clinic Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF). It was not until Hussein was taken to this clinic did they find that because his skin was so stretched out he could not close his eyes. Hussein's story is just one of many. The BBC news article stated that since the war began about 400 specialized doctors have left Iraq and many killed. This causes for hospitals to be understaffed and lacking security. It is non-governmental organizations such as MSF that make it possible to not only bring life, but hope to those who have been victims of this war. I thought this was a good article that brought to light the human aspects of the war and to remember that their pain and suffering is real and should not be forgotten, but at the same time, be aware that there is good in the world and it lives in the people who choose to try and make a difference.
