China Emerges as a Leader in Cleaner Coal Technology

By: Micah Bacheller

It is said by many economic specialists that China is an emerging super power. One more example of their great rise to power is their capability to produce cheaper and cleaner energy. China is realizing that cleaner energy needs to be achieved so as to combat global warming. They use mainly coal as the energy source, but they are using a new technology called "ultra-super critical" which uses super hot steam to increase efficiency and decrease carbon-monoxide by product.

China is decades ahead of the USA in terms of technology. The US uses outdated coal power plants, which need more coal to produce the same amount of energy compared to our Chinese counterpart. Also, over the past 4 years, China has doubled its wind energy production, and is now about to pass the US in wind capturing technology. This helps very much in shifting from the use of coal to an energy source that is totally green. As we look ahead, it seems that China is taking the right steps in investing in their energy sector as they take on the world stage.
