While it is not uncommon to read about disputes related to water scarcity or disproportionate allotment of the resource to different groups on the Gaza Strip, another restriction to agriculture has been the system of severe customs imposed on the region by Israel for anything entering or exiting the area. Because what is able to be produced is very difficult to get out, exporting becomes difficult; coupled with the additional costs associated with those regulation and the products become less competitive on the international market, most notably when compared to Israeli goods. The region of the strip most suited for farming is called Area C, a section that is "under complete Israeli control", which complicates matters and deters investment and significant efforts by those that view that status as causing instability. Despite these deterrents, there is farming that exists in the region and several stories of success, through the problems. The agriculturalists that have managed to work through the problems, and future ones, still look for a time when there are fewer difficulties.
