In a rare occasion, the Burmese government which is under the military junta has released Mr. Tin Oo, who served as the vice chair person of Aung San Suu Kyi's opposition National League for Democracy (NLD). Mr. Oo has been under house under for more than a decade after he was arrested in 2003 with the pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who is a noble peace prize laureate. Mr. Oo also helped found the NLD in 1988. In 1990, the NLD under the leadership of Mrs. Aung San Suu Kyi won the national election but the military junta prevented them from taking the office. Now, Mrs. Suu Kyi has been under house arrest for more than 20 years. Burma now known as Myanmar is under several sanctions due to violation in human rights in the country under the military junta.
