The 'Real IRA'

The group known as the 'real IRA' a subset of the Irish Republican Army that formed in 1998, as true peace was coming to Northern Ireland, has claimed responsibility for an attack made Saturday night. This attack claimed the lives of two soldiers scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan. The attack began when a local delivery service deliver pizza to the barracks at the Antrim base in Northern Ireland. As they were delivering the pizza gunmen open fired on the soldiers killing the two, and injuring two more along with the pizza men. This attack has rattled the nation of Northern Ireland, and for many brought back memories of the conflict and war that disrupted the country for so long. Worry has spread throughout the country that the so called 'real IRA' wants to renew the conflict and will continue to use drastic means to achieve this. One guess as to the reason for the attack is the it is a response to the chief constable of the Police Service deploying special forces soldiers, but he has stated he does not think that is the case. Whatever the spark the attack has certainly managed to shake-up a nation and raise tensions yet again. Representatives of many communities have come out with he same message of no retaliation and maintaining strong ties. The US State Department echoed these same sentiments starting-

"We call on all parties in Northern Ireland to unequivocally reject such senseless acts of violence, whose intention is to destroy the peace that so many in Northern Ireland have worked so hard to achieve."
