According to the New York Times three weeks ago the new President of the United States Obama sent a secret letter to the Russian President Medvedev suggesting to cooperate to stop Iran from creating and using weapons of mass destruction. For some officials as well as politicians, with the new approach of Obama, the relationship between Russia and the United States could improve and with policies like this against Iran could give “the chance for a fresh start.” It seems that the Obama administration is reconsidering the idea of setting the missile defense on Russian land, something that the Bush administration always refused.
Details will be clarified and discussed next Friday when Hillary Clinton and Sergei V. Lavrov, Foreign Minister of Russia, as well as in April between both Presidents in London.
Would you have imagined this kind of relationship before? Does this show that in international relations aliances depend on who and what is the threat regardless of the past?
