The United Nation's draft resolution on Syria was turned down by Russia and China today. A wave of opposition, anger and condemnation has whipped through the West. US said the veto was "shameful." The US ambassador to the UN wrote on Twitter: "Disgusted that Russia and China prevented UN Security Council from fulfilling its sole purpose." Britain said that this has let Syrian people down, where as French President Sarkozy said he "strongly deplores" the veto.
The vote took place just hours after a horrific attack in Homs killing 61 people. Opposition groups received a big hinder in calling for serious actions: "We've been expected the U.N. to help us ... and they just left us like this," said an activist identified as Danny. "Now this regime is going to hit us harder." One of the opposition groups insist that they will call for two-day civil strike to start on Sunday in order to push pressure on the government. It will take time for extra efforts but the West will keep on diplomatic efforts.
