US supports Bulgaria's energy independence from Russia

On Sunday, February 5, the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged Bulgaria to become independent from Russian gas and oil supplies. After attending the international Security Conference, where Russia and China vetoed a UN resolution on Syria, Clinton came to Bulgaria and called on country’s energy independence. As Bulgaria almost entirely relies on Russian gas and oil supplies, this makes the country especially “vulnerable to “unhealthy” political pressure from Moscow”. Therefore Clinton indicated that United States are willing to help Bulgaria in advancing energy security by developing new energy sources and using new pipelines that bypass Russia.
