European nations are at odds over how to handle the increasing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, especially with the United States' hard-line stance.
Nations such as France and Germany favor de-escalation tactics with Putin and Russia, opting to send little aid, such as battle helmets only, to the Ukrainian defense. Other nations such as Poland and numerous Baltic states closely align with American stances, taking harder and stronger measures against the eastern superpower. NATO, however, understands the dangers of a lack of unity between its states, and that lack on favors Putin and his requests to block Ukraine from joining the alliance, and to remove NATO military weapons and personnel from neighboring states of Russia.
