Mexicans confined in China

Marissa Rankins

Mexicans that arrived in China were segregated from everyone else in the airport. Now they are basically being held captive. The Chinese are taking the threat of swine flu to a whole new level. it started with a Mexican man who landed in China who did have the swine flu. Chines officials detained all of the other Mexican passengers and they are now being held under quarantine. All flights from Mexico are suspended, which leaves about 120 Chinese stranded in Mexico. The Mexican government has to send a charted plane to pick up the quarantined that are being held in China. They are being held in hotels, some in hospitals. They are being brought food, but is all that really necessary? The people don't show any signs of the flu, some were event tested. Upon completion of the testing they were told they would be released, but then they were told that it would be another week. I understand the concern after the SARS incident, but this is ridiculous. We not just send them home if they don't want them there. Or better yet they should of denied Mexican planes once the flu started spreading before something like this happened. This is going to create sour relations between the Mexican and Chines governments, at least for the time being.
