U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates traveled to South Korea on Friday to discuss continual concerns about North Korea. He urged North Korea to "end its belligerent acts" and start attempting to make steps towards settlements with the international community. Gates' purpose of his trip was to ensure peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. Tensions between North and South Korea arose again when the North shelled the South's Yeonpyeong Island and when a North torpedo sank a South warship. The North has also expressed their enrichment of uranium for nuclear weapons. Gates' expressed concerns that the North needed to stop their dangerous provocations. But he said there still is a possibility of negotiation between the North and South. "When or if North Korea's actions show cause to believe that negotiations can be productive and conducted in good faith, then we could see a return to the six-party talks," Gates said. Until then, tensions continue to escalate and dangerous actions are still looming from the North.
