378 Civilians killed in a 'no-fire' zone

By Beth Lessard

On Saturday, May 10th, almost 400 civilians were killed by government shelling in what is supposed to be a 'no-fire' zone in Sri Lanka. According to CNN, an aid worker reported that roughly 1,200 were wounded and 378 were dead. A video sent in to CNN, showed wounded and dead bodies laying around on the ground everywhere. When it comes to the government, they deny that they were involved in the shelling. They deny the word that they were involved in the shelling of the "no-fire" zone. They say that it is the Tamil Tiger rebels doing because they have shelled civilians in the past. The aid workers found many bodies but state that they are scared that there are plenty more. Many other civilians were moved to the Vavuniya region, where the United Nations and other groups are trying to get relief to them. Tamil Tiger rebels have been pinned down by the Sri Lanka government groups and the civilians cought in the middle tried to flee.
