In June President Obama will fulfill his promise to address the Muslim world and he will do so from Egypt. Egypt, though not in the Middle East, is a country dominated by Muslims and Islamic traditions. It has one of the highest populations of Muslim citizens in the world and as such is a prime spot for Obama to chose to speak from. According to the Chicago Tribune, Obama is hoping that by choosing Egypt he can help rebuild ties with the country that has had a poor relationship with the United States in the past as he helps build ties with the Muslim world. In choosing Egypt, I think he is doing good things and there are still negatives. The positives are that he is following up his words with actions. He is taking his ideas and desire to work together with Islamic nations from their own backyards and he is showing that he is willing to leave the safety net of the Western World to do it. I believe one negative is that he really could have been daring and gone into the Middle East, into a country such as Saudi Arabia or Jordan. Egypt is no poor choice because as the article stated there is a significant Muslim population and the country is influential in the direction that Islam and Muslim leaders go. It also is a strong political move to rebuild a relationship with Egypt.
