The Israeli cabinet has approved an addition to Israel's citizenship law that states immigrants must declare their loyalty to a "Jewish and democratic state". The arab population is clearly upset with this amendment possibly getting passed because it ostracizes nearly 20 percent of the population by making the arab inferior to the jew. The Israeli parliament, the Knesset, now has to vote on this amendment and it seems as though they are pretty closely divided upon the matter so it will be interesting to see their verdict. I think this would never be able to occur in America because of the separation of Church and State that we abide by.
