U.S. alarmed by harsh tone of China's military

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates and China's Defense Minister Liang Guanglie met in Vietnam after suspending talks with each other last winter in order to prevent “mistrust, miscalculations and mistakes.” Days earlier China and Australia conducted war games in the Yellow Sea which Commander Cao pointed out the United States was not invited too. Chao also said that it is unlikely that the U.S. will ever be invited until they “stop selling weapons to Taiwan and stopping spying us with the air or the surface.” The Pentagon is worried that its increasingly tense relationship with the Chinese military is from the Commander Cao’s generation, who are becoming today's leaders. The younger generation has known an anti-American ideology. The U.S. is hoping for greater international exposure for China. This will hopefully bring renewed cooperation between the U.S. and China will lead to more exchanges of young officers and joint exercises.
