Thousands rally in Pakistan for blasphemy laws.
A rally in support of laws making it a crime to insult Islam drew almost 50,000 demonstrators in downtown Karachi, in Pakistan. The rally was in response to the shooting of a provincial governor who opposed the law. Salman Taseer was shot dead by his bodyguard, Mumtaz Quadri, because Quadri considered Taseer to be a blasphemer. The rules concerning this law are extremely tough, often with people being sentenced to death or being held in prison for excessive amounts of time. Recently, a man was held for throwing away the business card of a man with hte first name of Muhammed.
