Double Booked

By: Micah Bacheller
This article is talking about how over the past 10 years, people that are being able to get another passport has gone up 75%. This means that more and more people are accepting to be citizens from a new country while keeping ties with their home country. At the moment, there are 56 different countries in the world that allow its citizens to hold dual passports, including Australia, India, Philippines, and even Russia!

Why do these countries allow this to happen? In the case of Italy, the country wants to establish political and economic ties to the people that have emigrated. Also, if any of your grandparents have Italian blood, you can apply for an Italian passport. This creates economic ties with the millions of "new" Italians living outside Italy, and keeps the money flowing back into their "passported" country. Its a win-win situation, as the people with an Italian passport have all the rights of a citizen, own land, go to school, open bank accounts.  For Latin Americans who obtained an USA passport, they make more money than if they did not have the USA passport.
