The First Pirate Prevention

by James Hoffman

As Somalian pirates appeared to be striking again on the East coast of Africa, U.S. and South Korean navy intervened. The Somalian's intended victim was an Egyptian-flag ship, MV Amira. America's USS Gettysberg and South Korea's ROKS Munmu the Great sent helicopters full of anti-pirate task force agents in response to MV Amira's distress call. The Egyptian-flag ship spotted dhow ship in distant seas that they suspected was a pirate "mothership." In a unfied effort South Korea and the U.S. successfully boarded and disarmed the dhow flag ship. This was the CTF 151's first pirate bust, in which they discovered several assault rifles and a grenade launcher with amo. As pirates still control an estimated 15 ships, the battle on piracy continues.
