A Young Marine’s Dream Job

By Mike Woodard
Two United States Marines are currently based at Firebase Vimoto in Afghanistan teaching an Afghan platoon to use weapons along with other military operations. The Obama administration sees this as a huge step for the Afghan military independence. They hope the two Marines training the Afghan soldiers will eventually lead to the soldiers being capable of fighting the Taliban themselves. There are currently 30 Afghan soldiers there, most of them in their 20's. Each day they have to walk through some of the most dangerous land in the world. The two marines their are helping these 30 soldiers in hopes that they can be able to fend for themselves and not at a cost of high casualties.
