The pentagon has hired several Afghan private security forces to guard US bases in Afghanistan. The security forces that are being hired are not necessarily very secure security forces. Many of these security forces are linked to Taliban, criminal networks, and Iranian Intelligence. This is not a very good thing to do, this may expose US soldiers to surprise attacks. It also may give the Taliban and other forces insight on US operations. By doing this, the US is feeding the pockets of the opposing force with money. The Pentagon is not doing much to oversee the Afghan guards. They have almost no information regarding who is employed by these forces or where their bases are. This has showed to be a problem after we bombed two houses where leaders of these groups were. As Carl Levin said, “We must shut off the spigot of U.S. dollars flowing into the pockets of warlords and power brokers who act contrary to our interests.”
