Killing Educated in Pakistan
A week ago members of the Taliban entered Farooq Khan's office as he ate lunch and shot him to death. Khan was a doctor for those in need, a scholar, a defender of democracy, and "everything the Islamist extremists hated." Khan is only one of at least six Muslim intellectuals that have been killed in the past year. Khan had previously been involved in two different anti-American groups but since leaving them he began speaking out on his own against jihads and the more extremist views in Pakistan. He even visited America as a guest to the government in 2002. Many citizens seem to be unsurprised by Khan's death and seem to feel that they and their government are powerless against attacks like these.
