Sudan is expected to see the end to the north-south civil war after a week-long vote in which Southern Sudan is voting for independence. However, it does not go unnoticed that the new country will inherit several oil-rich areas, leaving Northern Sudan still wanting a piece of the profit. In an effort to dim the light on a split Sudan, the President, Omar al-Bashir expressed his concerns, “ The south suffers from many problems. It has been at war since 1959. The south does not have the ability to provide for its citizens or create a state or authority”. Northern Sudan sits upon a blanket of desert and the south upon oil, grasslands, and tropical forests. Coincidentally, the northern politicians are urging the President to keep the country from further conflicts such as disputed borders over oil-rich areas.
