Iceland's New Prime Minister
A new prime minister, Johanna Sigurdardottir, was announced in Iceland. Sigurdardottir is the first modern world's openly gay politician replacing the previous prime minister, Geir Haarde. Prior to her appointment she was a social affairs minister, member and creator of the National Movement party and finally a member of the Social Democratic Party. Her recent appointment was due to the economic crisis that looms in Iceland and around the world, but is only temporary until the May elections. Sigurdardottir has been openly gay for much of her political career, and remained popular with Iceland's residents even during times of political turmoil. She has many plans to help Iceland out of its crisis, among the list of priorities are to replace the board of governors and to discuss plans for entering the European Union.
