The article states that due to a recent scientific review the EPA has just discovered that carbon dioxide emissions “may endanger human health and well-being”. On one hand I find this annoying and insulting because I think everyone knows that carbon dioxide is harmful. On the other hand, if this is truly new information for the EPA I think we need a new and more intelligent agency. Reality; politics are at play. The good news is that the new administration has directed the EPA to tell the truth and Obama is putting measures in place to reduce greenhouse gasses. While carbon-cutting legislation is on the table and, public consultation of economic impact is being reviewed, the EPA findings allow certain freedoms without the red-tape of federal approval. For instance, California will most likely be granted their originally denied request to set targets for vehicle emissions. Fifteen other states intend to follow suit. More importantly, developing states have been waiting for the U.S. to take lead on environmental issues and this is a good start.
