Mayor: Madonna Promises $500,000 for Quake Relief

According to an ABC.com new article, Madonna has agreed to give $500,000 to help out victims of the recent earthquake in Pacentro Italy. This is the town where her grandparents were from, and she felt that it right to give the town a half million dollars to help them recover from such a disaster. I think that Madonna is part of a growing trend toward celebrities getting involved in disaster relief, especially when it hits so close to home. It's a very good thing to see people reaching out and helping others (especially those in other countries), and especially when they have large amounts of money to contribute, which can really make a difference. I think that by the news covering more stories like this, and more and more celebrities contributing money, it may push regular joe's to get out and contriubute money to global disasters.
