After reading the news earlier today, an article was brought to my attention about Obama seeking another 83 billion dollars for Iraq/Afghanistan. The Obama camp is trying to get more money to fund the wars through September. They want to pay for the rest of the 2009 budget and try to get the troops out by 2010. But, in my opinion, the troops will not be out by 2010. I have many friends over in Afghanistan who believe the same, that they will be there until atleast 2015.
About 75 million dollars of the money will pay for military operations and the remainder of the money will try and lead to a drawdown of all the troops over there. Obama wants to shift all the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and bring them home. I believe this is a good thing because, again in my opinion, this is a war we shouldn't even be fighting. This additional 83 billion dollars will bring the total amount of money spent on this conflict/war up to 800 billion dollars which could have been spent on something else. By 2010, Obama hopes to leave only 35,000-50,000 troops in Iraq and hopes to have all troops out by 2011. Hopefully, his plan works and all the troops can be home by 2011, but that is very optomistic right now.
