Recently, and Iranian-American journalist was charged with spying for the United States in Iran. Apparently, the trial took only one day, and was held in secret. President Obama has been quoted as being concerned for the journalists’ safety. Roxana Saberi ( the journalist) is planning a hunger strike currently and is described as being very frail. She is also quoted as saying that it was hard to believe how a country could treat a human being in this way. I only have one question for these people, have any of them heard of Guantanamo Bay, or how about Bagram? Have they not heard of what is being done to a similar Al Jazeera journalist being held for 7 years at Guantanamo (being held for spy charges, tortured, and mistreated in attempts to extract information)? Now, I’m not saying that what is being done to Saberi is right, or fair, I’m only saying that before our President goes and makes comments about her safety, he may want to reevaluate what exactly it is that our country is doing to similar individuals.
