Egypt moves to reassure allies
In the after math of President Hosni Mubarak's resignation on Friday, after 18 days of protest, the military has stated they will uphold all international treaties, including the ones with Israel. The announcement was made on television by a senior officer where he also stated that the military will oversee peaceful transition into civilian rule. This announcement came to the great relief of not only the Egyptian people but also the United State and Israel. The military has also asked the remaining members of the government to stay on until elections can be held and all upper levels of Mubarak's government as not allowed to leave the country. There is still a lot of celebration going on and the stock market in Egypt is set to reopen on Wednesday. However the opposition forces stay vigilant until they receive clear evidence that the government is headed in a new direction. It is evident that the fight for democracy is not over in Egypt but progress in still being made.
