A military air base in Nothern Syria was attacked on Saturday by rebels in the Islamist Front to Liberate Syria. President Bashar al-Assad's forces have been able to hold off rebels with far superior weapons but, the forces are stretched too thin. Despite being out gunned, the rebels have been able to take over the rural North and border to Turkey. The reasons behind the attack on the air base include cutting off the nations largest city Aleppo from the capital city, Damascus, and from the president. Rebels also say another reason is because all planes that bomb are sent from this air base. Rebels say they destroyed 2 helicopters and several anti-aircraft batteries.
