Obama Begins Diplomatic Tour of Europe

The White House still considers the situation in Ukraine to be in crisis state, however, it seems that the situation has cooled down a bit in the past few weeks. Ukraine has just elected pro-European President Poroshenko, and Russia has pulled back troops from the border. Obama will visit Poland, Belgium, and France, and will also meet with Poroshenko, in addition to other leaders that will convene in these countries as well. Obama's aides have not ruled out an unscripted conversation between Obama and Russia's Vladmir Putin, as they will both be in Normandy on the same day. While Obama is cautiously optimistic about the new developments, it should be stated that Ukraine is still a volatile region, the violence has not been fully contained, and Europe still needs to be weaned off Russian oil. It will be interesting to see how these converging world leaders will address the issues dealing with Eastern Europe.
