Colombia seeks end to farmers' strike after 2 deaths

After five days of strikes by indigenous farmers in Colombia, the government is attempting to negotiate with them. The farmers, from 20 of Colombia's 32 provinces, are striking to demand the government to honor rural spending commitments made during a much deadlier strike back in 2013. Negotiations finally started after two protesters were killed and dozens more weer injured following a clash with police. According to government officials, the violence was a result of the National Liberal Army, a rebel group, infiltrating protests and inciting violence. The farmers have not backed down, though. Coming from long-neglected indigenous communities, they are continuing to strike and block major highways until the government gives in to their demands.
