Two different Libyan militias have recently been making progress in taking back the city of Surt from ISIS. Surt is a very important base for ISIS, being the base for thousands of foreign fighters. When the city was taken by them a few years ago, it was considered a large blow. Now, two different militias on both the west and east of Surt are moving towards the city, taking land back. Recently, one of the groups obtained the power plant about 20 miles outside of the city, while the other has also been making progress in bordering cities.
While this is easing some minds in the West, who's focuses are on weakening the forces that make up ISIS, many are worried that it will create a divide between the west and east of Libya, and commence fighting between the two sides. This would eliminate the shaky peace that has been created with the presence of ISIS in Libya.
