Since the Obama campaign has taken office in the White House, many policies have started to change. One of their objectives is to repair the relationship with Cuba. In this recent article, Fidel Castro commented on the attempted changes. He views these changing policies as a good thing, but also realizes how far the relationship is from being repaired. With the new campaign's attitude of creating a new America, these steps are not surprising. Cuba has been anything but an international power over the past few decades. Regaining an alliance with America may be in their interest, but is it really that important for America to have this relationship with Cuba? The strengths and opportunities that Cuba can give the United States needs to be examined before they make this relationship one of their top priorities. The new policies put in place allow people in America to send an unlimeted amount of cash to relatives in Cuba as well as an umlimited amount of visits to the country. Before only $300 and one visit per 3 months were allowed. If relations are to be repaired, this is a step in the right direction. But there is still a long way to go.
