The Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, is now considering naming an ambassador to the U.S. This is a very important change in relations between the two countries because of the past tension between the two nations. The Obama administration is welcoming this new shift. This development came about after the meetings of leaders from 34 countries at the fifth summit of the Americas. Chavez actually approached Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss the issue. Things will not change rapidly however because officials are not sure how serious Chavez is, but the outlook looks very positive in improving the relations which would lead to a brighter future for both countries.
