Chinese Hunger for Sons Fuels Boys’ Abductions

By Mike Woodard
According to the article in the New York Times, child abduction is becoming a larger and more common industry. These kidnappers are taking children right in front of people and are getting away with it. Parents will look away or take care of something for one minute and the next thing they know, the child will be gone. They are simply grabbed or lured away by the kidnapper.
The market for these abducted children is thriving. Chinese families are in a high demand for boys. They place men in higher positions then women and will pay big money for a boy that they can raise to be their own. Most of the abducted children stay relatively close from where they were abducted, but some will travel much further. The police and other law enforcement agencies do not care that this is taking place. They are not rewarded for solving these children abduction cases and therefore do not place them in a high priority. Most parents of the children that had been kidnapped decided to try themselves to search for their children by putting out posters and letting the public know to look for the child.
