Zimbabwe prison called 'death camp'

By Katherine Brady

This article at
http://english.aljazeera.net/news/africa/2009/04/2009411994118412.html is about the conditions of these prisons in Zimbabwe which are very harrowing. Zimbabwe has been in much turmoil lately with inflation and political chaos. In these prisons the prisoners live in terrible conditions--they are starving and receiving only one meal a day (there have been many deaths from malnutrition and starvation), and they are also dying from diseases such as tuberculosis. Many of the pictures that were taken at these prisons in Zimbabwe remind me very much of the death camps during the Holocaust in World War II. This really makes me think...we experienced how horrible the Holocaust was, so why are such things still happening? Granted the prisoners are criminals unlike the Jews who were all innocent, but innocent or guilty, no human being should have to live in such conditions. I think that these prison "death camps" further show how utterly unstable Zimbabwe is and how horrible a man like President Robert Mugabe is for allowing such things to happen in his own country.
