Iran Jails Journalist as U.S. Spy

By Mei Kin Chew

An Iranian-American journalist, Roxana Saberi, was convicted for 'spying' and will be jailed for eight years according to the Iranian judicial. There was no information released with regards Saberi's trial, no explicit documentation or explanation in terms of the interrogation process and inadequate evidence that proves that Saberi was guilty of being a U.S. spy. Saberi was allegedly forced to verbally communicated certain 'facts' that later on were used against her in the courtroom. A New York-based journalist committee called Saberi's trial 'lacked transparency'.

U.S President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said that they were 'deeply disappointed' in the wake of the conviction. President Obama's effort to rekindle ties with the Islamic republic will surely be implicated with the occurence of events as such.
