The article "Slump Tilts Priorities of Industry in China" discusses how China has stopped focusing on the environment and has changed its focus to bettering its economy. Before the current global recession, China had stated that it planned to reduce the amount of pollution in the country. Now it seems, however, that the Chinese government has stopped focusing on improving the environment and started focusing on making it easier for Chinese corporations to make a product. In particular, the Chinese government has started to repeal environmental restrictions. The reasoning behind this is that the environmental restrictions were costly to many companies. Unfortunately, now that China has begun to sacrifice environmental restrictions for money, there is the danger that the focus on profit over the environment will only increase -- particularly if the global economy continues to decline.
