Later today, the Obama administration will make memos available to the public. These memos describe the harsh interrogation techniques used by the CIA against al Qaeda suspects. Bush kept these methods secret and many in the Obama administration believe that torture was used on these subjects. Which really isn't a good thing for the Bush administration and might make Republicans look bad. The documents are supposedly going to prove that Bush's administration allowed the CIA to use sleep deprivation, exposure to extreme temps, and "waterboarding" on the subjects/detainees. Which, again, isn't a very good thing for the Bush administration and by Obama releasing said memos, it also isn't good for Republicans.
Back in 2007, the New York Times claimed that the memos gave legal support for using these techniques and the methods were not "cruel". The CIA are afraid that by releasing these memos, the investigation into covert activities in the Bush Administration could be blown wide open. Which, is probably a good thing for the U.S. citizens but not for the CIA. It will give the citizens a chance to see how different Obama is from Bush and by releasing said documents, it will put some distance between Obama and some of Bush's controversial policies.
