Somalian Pirates

By: Blayne Sim

Recently, a private yacht was hi-jacked by a group of Somali pirates. These pirates have been causing lots of problems over the last few months on the high seas. Because of Somalia's lack of a formal government, these pirates are sailing into international waters and taking whatever they can to hold for ransom. They have hi-jacked everything from multi-million dollar oil tankers to, in this case, private yachts. This issue can affect the global economy, for the cargo is coming from one country, and heading towards another. The supplies on the ships are used to create other products that are then being turned around and sold to other countries. These pirates need to be brought to a halt. Only the crew of the ship was on board at the time, but these pirates are still holding the ship for ransom. It is important for the world's powers to come together to bring them to justice. This is a situation that can affect the whole world. And if it isn't taken care of properly, it can have very negative outcomes as these attacks continue.
