State Governments Continue to Slash Social Programs.

Patrick Larson

This article cites several situations in which social programs are being cut in attempt to slash government budgeting throughout our nation. Cut programs include no more dental care for Medicaid eligible residents of California, child welfare workers cut in Ohio (meaning an increase in foster care for children), and thousands of retired residents of Arizona lacking home workers help to care for them. This all seems so obscure to me, because in our last major depression FDR’ clawed his way out by creating an extensive list of social programs in order to give people jobs, which created money for them to give back to the economy. However, today’s state governments fail to recognize the fact that this is a previously successful way to relieve our economic troubles. Let’s hope our government isn’t too stubborn to take a page out of history and alleviate the mess that we find ourselves living in presently.
