Trump Administration to Slash Refugee Admissions to Lowest Level in a Decade.

This article comes from CBS News and talks about how Trump and his administration want to lower the number of refugees that are going to be allowed into the country. When President Obama was in office in 2016, 84,995 refugees were granted permission to enter the United States. Now, Trump and his administration could be capping that number off at 45,000, and it is possible that even all those slots will not be filled. Even though this has not been confirmed, Trump has also stated that immigration is high on his priority list. We also know that he has put a “temporary” ban on certain Muslim countries, rescinded on an action that President Obama put in place to protect young Mexican immigrants from deportation, and has talked a lot about building a wall between the United States and Mexico. All of these actions seem like we do not want people in our country, they use resources too, because they are also people, and not allowing them into the country may not be the best decision. Further down, the article talks about how in a recent speech to the United Nations last week, “he thanked Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon for taking in hundreds of thousands of refugees from the Syrian conflict, and described the United States as a "compassionate nation" that has spent "billions and billions of dollars in helping to support this effort."” Though the United States is a “compassionate nation,” I do not think that turning away people in need, actually makes us a “compassionate nation.”
