Hong Kong Protests Turn Violent

As discussed in class, protests have been occurring in Hong Kong over a controversial legislation that would send criminals back to mainland China for their trial. This is deeply based on how China operates on a non-democratic agenda compared to Hong Kong which could lead to unfair trials. The protests have remained relatively peaceful for the past 2 months, but Saturday ruined that streak with local police using tear gas on protesters who blocked roadways and tore down smart street lamps. It is amazing that such a large scale protest has remained peaceful for that long, as if something to this size happened in the U.S it would have gotten violent weeks ago.
