Italy's Political Chaos

Right now there is a scramble to form a govenrment in Italy to avoid early elections. The dispute comes after the coalition between the leftwing populist at the 5 Star Movement and the right wing party League (formerly known as Northern League) fell apart. Currently the 5 Star Movement is attempting to form a coalition with the Democratic Party the main left wing party in Italy. Though the 5 Star Movement ran directly against the Democratic Party in the latest national elections. Further a major hurtle that must be hashed out in an attempt to form a government is the naming of a Prime Minister which must be approved by the Italian President (a member of the Democratic Party). Members of the 5 Star Movement wish for the outgoing Prime Minister Conte to stay as Prime Minister while the Democratic Party and Conte himself has opposed. The deadline to form a new government is Tuesday the 27th of August. There is also the possibility that the 5 Star Movement and League may indeed reform their coalition, as the leader of League and current Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, has made a number of statements saying that he would not be opposed to reforming the government so long as "things get done". If the parties are unable to form a coalition or reform a coalition the Italian President will have no choice but to call a snap election. In this case the election will be held either in October or November.
