'Satisfaction' from Kim over N. Korea launch

Matt Boguslawski
Tension arose with the launching of a North Korean rocket. According to North Korean media, Kim Jong-Il was very pleased with the successful turn out of the launch. Kim Jong-Il was satisfied with the successful launch as it shows North Korean wisdom and technology. The North Korean government claimed that the launch was a "peaceful launch of a satellite into orbit." However, US and other governments stated that the launch was not successful and that it was a non peaceful launch but a provocative act. According to NORAD the satellite never made it into orbit as claimed by the North Koreans but that it crashed in the Pacific Ocean. The payload of the rocket was never clear making for a very stressful time during an emergency UN Security Council meeting. The launch came as a suprise to the rest of the world as it went against the international community and caused more unnecessary tension in the world.
