The Coalition is Here!
For the first time in history, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats of the UK have created a coalition, also making it the first UK coalition since the Second World War. David Cameron and Nick Clegg have acknowledged the risks they take in this endeavor, but move forward in confidence. Cameron, the youngest Prime Minister since 1812, led the Conservatives to take the most seats in last week's election, but it was not enough for a majority. He then reached out the the Liberal Democrats to create a new administration whose focus will be "freedom, fairness, and responsibility." The two leaders have been laughing off opposition they faced in the past. Recognizing the huge economic burden they are taking on, Nick Clegg assured the press that it would a radical reforming government where needed, but a stable and reliable government in other areas where reassurance would be needed. Cabinet appointments have been made, deals of the new policy between the parties has been published, and we can be sure the new government is ready to go. To top it off: the first foreign phone call of congratulations to the Prime Minister was from our own president, Barack Obama.
