Mass Grave Discovered in Serbia
A mass grave was just discovered outside Raska, Serbia containing 250 bodies thought to be Kosovo Albanians. The bodies are thought to be from around 1999 when Serbia was fighting Albanian rebels. EU investigators reported the find, which was rumored to have existed for years, but could not be found. The grave was found beneath a building that is thought to have been built to purposely hide the grave. DNA processing to discover the victims' identities will take years. These are not the first mass graves to be found in Serbia. Over 800 Albanian bodies have been found throughout the country. Over 11,000 people have died in the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia, and another 1,800 are still missing. Although the country of Kosovo is now recgonized by many other nations, Serbia does not recognize it as a country. The discovery of this grave is said to be a sign that Serbia is finally coming to terms with its dark history.
